What are some files used in your company?
What databases? What brand of database software? Who is responsible for the database?Lenovo has many records and files but this information was not available on the Internet. And Lenovo uses LANDesk software as their database software, LANDesk, an Avocent company, is a leading provider of systems, security, and process management solutions for desktops, servers and mobile devices across the enterprise. LANDesk enables thousands of organizations to easily deploy and use end-to-end management solutions. LANDesk is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, with offices located in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer David SCHMOOCK is responsible for the databases. Here is the link for him(http://www.lenovo.com/lenovo/US/en/management.html#schmoock)

How do managers get reports? What types of reports? Is OLAP used? Is a data warehouse used? Are data marts used?
Managers of lenovo get reports from SQL servers. The basic form of an SQL statement is SELECT… FROM… WHERE…
The types of reports which managers are received are for business intelligence. Online analytical processing (OLAP) is the manipulation of information to support decision making.
And of course, yes, Lenovo uses OLAP.A data warehouse is a logical collection of information--- gathered from many different operational databases--- used to create business intelligence that supports business analysis activities and decision-making tasks. When utilized with a desktop fleet management solution like LANDesk, a system administrator simply deploys a small InterAct ES passive agent on each client PC. The agent collects performance and usage information, including the programs and Web-based applications that are installed and accessed by the PC. This data is then sent automatically to a virtual knowledge warehouse which can be used to generate reports to support decisions ranging from business capacity to hardware and software procurement. So Lenovo data warehouse is used by Lenovo, and it do help the company a lot.
The data mart is subset of a data warehouse in which only a focused portion of the data warehouse information is kept. And Lenovo uses data marts. For example, AsiaInfo (ASIA) announced the successful completion of a municipal-level Data Mart application project for Jilin Mobile. The Jilin Mobile Municipal Data Mart project is a pilot program launched by China Mobile to improve the data processing and analyzing capabilities of its city-level branches.AsiaInfo says it worked with Jilin Mobile to build a Data Mart platform with localized features to support real-time collection and analysis of critical data. The project will help Jilin Mobile heighten response capability, improve operating efficiency and increase its overall market competitiveness at the city level.

What types of data mining is used? Who is responsible? What software?
The main purpose of data mining is to help sort large amounts of data and picking out relevant information. It is commonly used in a wide range of profiling practices, such as marketing, fraud detection and scientific discovery. Data mining can be applied to data sets of any size. However, while it can be used to uncover hidden patterns in data that have been collected, obviously it can neither uncover patterns which are not already present in the data, nor can it uncover patterns in data that have not been collected. I think Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer David SCHMOOCK or Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer HE Zhiqiang is responsible for data mining. And the data mining software used in Lenovo is not available on the Internet.

Lenovo on Tuesday refreshed its workstation line with two computers available with the Nvidia Tesla C1060 platform for companies looking to turn the systems into desktop supercomputers. The ThinkStation S20 and D20 are designed for professionals in fields such as computer-aided design, digital content creation, and oil and gas. The systems offer a choice of the latest Intel Xeon quad-core or dual-core 5500 and W3500 series processors. In addition, the systems come with the Nvidia Quadro line of professional graphics cards or optional ATI FirePro graphics from Advanced Micro Devices. In order to run high-performance computing applications on the systems, however, the heavily computational portions of software would have to be run through Nvidia's CUDA compiler. CUDA, or Compute Unified Device Architecture, is a development environment based on the C programming language.Other components of the Lenovo systems include a hard-disk drive with up to 1 TB of storage, up to 96 GB of system memory, and an optional Blu-ray disc burner. The workstations are available with Windows Vista orRed Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2.Lenovo Corp. is responsible for the hardware and software.

What type of network do they have?
Lenovo uses wide area network and SAN. Meanwhile Lenovo has launched a high performance 802.11g router, the LSA 800R, based on Atheros' WLAN technology. Lenovo's Commercial Desktop PC Business Unit is bundling the router with its latest Yang Tian Series of desktop PCs. The Lenovo LSA-800R WLAN router features Atheros' AR5006AP-G chip, the world's first single-chip product designed specifically for wireless access points and routers, which was introduced in December 2004.

What kind of interface do they use?
Lenovo supports network protocol, like Virtual Interface Adapter. In general, it is usually a network kind of interface but is usually a very high-performance, dedicated connection between two systems. In addition, Lenovo also use some other interfaces, such as user interface, graphical user interface.

What kind of media?
Lenovo's products support wired communications media and wireless communications media.

What kind of communications software?
Avaya's IP Softphone (http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/communications/soa/Avaya-and-Lenovo-team-up-on-VoIP/0,130061791,339274417,00.htm)

What kind of connecting devices or components?
Bluetooth uses short-range radio waves over distances of 9 metres. For example, Bluetooth devices such as a keyboard, PDA, cell phone, mouse or computer can connect to each other wirelessly and the distance can be up to 10 meters (33 feet). Some of the Bluetooth devices can support headsets and printers.
Infrared also called IR or IrDA (Infrared Data Association) has a frequency below what our eye can see. It is broadly used in infrared light, cell phone and TV remotes. IR wireless is used in wireless technology in devices or systems that convey data through infrared radiation, for instance, infrared wireless printing or infrared keyboards.
WiFi (wireless fidelity) uses radio waves for connection over distances up to around 91 metres, usually in a network environment. Wifi can be used to connect Local Area Networks [LAN], to connect cellphones to the Internet to download music and other multimedia, to allow PC multimedia content to be stream to the TV (Wireless Multimedia Adapter), and to connect video game consoles to their networks (Nintendo WiFi Connection).

How do they connect to the internet and at what speeds?
optical fiber, 1000Mbps

Do they use Voice over IP?
Yes .They do .VoIP is short for Voice over Internet Protocol.the Lenovo ThinkPad X301, T400 and T500 laptop PCs meet Microsoft's stringent requirements for high quality audio and video, giving users an excellent unified communications experience, while also lowering the total cost of ownership for a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) environment. For example :ThinkVantage security offers two primary ways of protecting confidentiality of data on a PC using encryption. One is full hard drive encryption. Every data sector on the hard drive is encrypted. That means that page data sets, swap files, temporary files, cached files from the internet and everything else is encrypted on the drive.

How do they apply the four principles of network security?four principles of network security:
*Confidentiality , meaning that information can only be obtained by those authorized to access it .The data on a Lenovo PC is important to the Lenovo user and to the company. The data is often company confidential. It might be that the data is governed by government security or privacy regulations.
*Authenticity ,meaning that information really comes from the source it claims to come fromBasically, Lenovo scores via all five genres of authenticity:
* its tan French leather casing renders natural authenticity
* its website — www.thinkpadreserve.com — honors the ThinkPad’s heritage of design, rendering original authenticity
* its Personal Welcome Service and 24-hour per day Executive Support Staff, fulfilling on its promise of experiencing “no answering machines, no phone menus, no hassles,” renders exceptional authenticity
* the 800 number for said services comes on screen at the touch of a big blue ThinkVantage button, rendering referential authenticity (yes, honoring its origin at IBM, I do believe), as does the James Bond-ish retractable antenna for wireless Internet access
* limiting distribution (to 5000 customers) aims at influential authenticity, especially since Lenovo seeks to stir up greater appreciation for excellent design by putting the Reserve Edition in the hands of people who have influence on other people.
*Integrity, meaning that information hasn't been altered.Lenovo operates based on completely free market principles, and is devoted to ensuring high transparency, integrity.
*Availability, meaning that a service or resource is available when is's supposed to be .Lenovo recovering from data loss by a system called ,Rescue and Recovery™ is a one button recovery and restore solution that includes a set of self recovery tools to help users diagnose, get help and recover from system crashes quickly, even if the primary operating system will not bo
